Special Needs (Enjoys)
The Special Needs section of the Club has now been running for about 8 years and all the participants have various disabilities including Down's Syndrome, Behavioural Disorders, Autism, learning difficulties and attention deficiency.
It is from this group of young gymnasts that we have achieved a considerable degree of success with numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze medals won at Club, Regional and International level.
Philosophy
We believe that everyone with a disability should be able to share, as individuals, in an environment that recognises their needs and responds to them in a positive way. This is extremely important. Disability should not, and will not, be clouded by stereotyped views about class, background, gender or special needs.
Principal Aims
- That all children and adults, whatever their disabilities, must have the right to achieve their potential in sport.
- To provide a secure and caring environment, where expectations, standards, quality and above all, enjoyment in sport takes place.
- To ensure that suitably qualified coaches are involved and play an active part in achieving the aims.
Objectives
All individuals will:
- Be encouraged to realise their importance and the value of learning new skills.
- Develop the skills and attitudes to enable them to progress.
- Through understanding, develop a respect for others working with them, which must also be aimed at anti-bodied participants working in the same environment.
