Tumbling Squad

Tumbling is a very old form of entertainment, it can be traced back to the Egyptians, illustrated on the walls of some pyramids.

Modern tumbling or "Power tumbling" is a mixture of skill, strength, agility and fearlessness, and is performed on a special tumbling track made of fiberglass poles laid across side supports and covered with a thick foam matting, this enables tumblers to jump higher than on the traditional 12 meter square gymnastic floor.

Tumblers are able to performing multiple somersaults and flics linked together, triple somersaults are common at the World Championships.

Southampton Gymnastics Club has a long and successful history in tumbling and boasts many international competitors including Ian Matthews, Adam Janes, Keri Llewellyn, Theresa Male, Mark Priddle, just to name a few from the past, more recently, Helen Briggs, Sophie Parkin and now Ellie Arbuthnot and her younger brother Charlie Arbuthnot continue to represent Great Britain.

Southampton Gym Club has now updated it´s tumbling equipment, a new tumble track and "fast track", this is a 16m long, 2m wide trampoline and replicates the tumble track with one major difference, it enables tumblers to train for longer with less risk of injury, a vital piece of equipment.

Southampton Gym Club's coaching team are very experienced and is made up of former international tumblers and gymnasts, the tumbling squad is in very safe hands and is looking to expand, do you have what it takes to be a tumbler ?
