Flippin ‘eck! Southampton Gymnastics Club stretch, contort and back-flip a Mile for Sport Relief!

As Sport Relief fever takes hold everyone, from children to celebrities, is gearing up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Southampton – and now the Southampton Gymnastics Club are ready to go the extra mile too!

Gymnasts from the Southampton Gymnastics Club tackled a training session with a difference at the Gymnastics Centre at Redbridge Community School with an impressive flippin’ frenzy as they warm up for the Southampton Mile on Sunday 25th March.

The enthusiastic team were willing to back-flip a mile for Sport Relief and encourage the people of Southampton to do their bit by entering the Southampton Mile.

Team coach Ian Matthews said,“We are used to going the extra mile to achieve success, so today has been lovely to flip and tumble the extra mile for Sport Relief. We hope you, Southampton, will go the extra mile too by doing the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile right here in Southampton. You don’t have to be bendy like us! Anyone can join in and get sponsored to do the Mile. The money you raise really does make a difference here in Southampton, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.”

Southampton City Council is working with Sport Relief to help deliver the Southampton Mile.

“The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is a fantastic community event and was a huge success in the city in 2010.  We at Southampton City Council are delighted to be working with Sport Relief on the Southampton Mile and are urging everyone across the city to enter now and make this even bigger and better than before.”

Anyone can enter the Mile and take on the 1, 3, or 6 miles on offer. Rope in friends, family, colleagues and neighbours and go the extra mile for Sport Relief! The atmosphere will be electric with fun and entertainment along the way.

This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their Sport Relief socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and the world’s poorest countries. Enter the Southampton Mile right now at www.sportrelief.com.
